
The Public Informatics Week events were held online due to the pandemic. Dr. Ömer Fatih Sayan, Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, announced that on December 16, demonstrations of some products developed under the End-to-End Domestic and National 5G Project would be shown to project stakeholders.
In his speech, Sayan stated that developing information and communication technologies bring new opportunities for individuals, institutions, and states in economic and social life. Noting that rapid developments in the technology field are changing social life and ways of doing business both individually and institutionally, Sayan said, "We expect the technological capabilities we personally possess to be reflected in the services we receive, and we demand digital transformation in every field. During the pandemic process, while increasing physical distance, we close distances in the virtual environment thanks to information and communication technologies, reunite with our loved ones, receive our education, hold our meetings. We meet our needs from e-commerce sites, our shopping comes to our door thanks to workers in the postal and cargo sector, and postal and cargo workers become like our hands and feet."
Deputy Minister Sayan: 5G Technology Will Be Talked About More
Sayan pointed out that what ensures continuity in this process is actually the correct and strong investments made so far in information and communication infrastructure and technologies. Drawing attention to the fact that 5G technology will be talked about more in the next 10 years, Sayan said, "Machines and objects will communicate with us via 5G. On December 16, demonstrations of some products developed under the End-to-End Domestic and National 5G project will be shown to our project stakeholders. In the demo, voice communication will be conducted over the 5G core network developed domestically and nationally in Ankara with the existing 5G base stations of global suppliers located in the Istanbul laboratories of operators in our country. In addition, connection will be provided to the 5G core network with the 5G base stations developed under the End-to-End Domestic and National 5G Project."
President Karagözoğlu: Change and Transformation Are Taking Place in Many Areas
Information Technologies and Communication Authority President Ömer Abdullah Karagözoğlu also attended the opening of the program. Stating that a change that is evaluated as digitalization today and affects all areas of life is taking place, Karagözoğlu pointed out that profound changes are occurring in the lives of individuals and societies in the digitalization process. Karagözoğlu said, "With the development and widespread use of digital tools, change and transformation are taking place in many areas such as work, education, health, transportation, and economy in terms of society and social aspects."
Stating that digital transformation is not a choice or preference but a complete necessity, Karagözoğlu said, "Because countries that remain outside this change will not be able to reach the level of development. With the transformation, public and private sectors need to review and even redefine all their processes and ways of doing business." Karagözoğlu emphasized that they are working with all their might to transition to 5G with domestic and national capabilities in the shortest possible time.
Providing information about the National Cyber Incident Response Center (USOM) activities, Karagözoğlu shared the following information: "Nearly 80,000 malicious links have been detected, checked, and access blocked at the infrastructure level. Thus, attacks on internet users and systems nationwide have been prevented. More than 17,000 cyber security notifications by USOM have been reported to relevant institutions and organizations, ensuring necessary measures are taken."
